Red Bank Keeps Winning Despite Being Down to Their 5th Quarterback

Red Bank, TN-(WDEF-TV) What a saga this year at Red Bank.
The Lions are down to their fifth quarterback.
You heard right. They’ve used five QB’S.
But the adversity hasn’t slowed them down.
They’re still playing for a region championship on Friday.

Reporter:”You know Ted I didn’t know teams carried five quarterbacks.” (laughter)
Said Red Bank head coach Ted Gatewood:”We drafted. We drafted pretty heavy in the quarterback field in last year’s draft.”
The situation is so crazy, Coach Gatewood can’t help but laugh.
The quarterback dominos started falling in week two for the Lions.
Said Gatewood:”Started the year with Erik Hill. It was going pretty good up until probably second quarter against Rhea County, and then he went down with a knee injury. Had Soddy Daisy the following week, and Sea

n Brune. And Shawn rolls out and gets tackled on the sidelines and breaks his collarbone.”
And after two more set-backs, Gatewood turned to freshman Cayden Loveless to start in week 10.
Said Loveless:”I mean I was excited and nervous. I was nervous because I haven’t played quarterback since 7th grade.”
Now Loveless had worked with the QB’s sparingly in practice this year, but he played like a pro in his start against Hixson.
How bout 16 of 23 for 170 yards passing.
Said Gatewood:”He’s a special kid. He understands the game. He has got a really good football mind. And he has great work ethic. And he’s well liked by his teammates.”
Said Loveless:”My family was excited. My mom. My mom is my number one supporter. She was out there screaming my name. I heard her from the field yeah. I love my mom.”
Gatewood hopes the quarterback carousel is over.
Said Gatewood:”You don’t want that to happen to a kid specifically. My colleagues in the business are like gosh. Most of them I talk to can’t believe where we’re at with it right now anyway. Our kids don’t hang anything on that. We just keep going.”
