Red Bank Might Be Copying Atlanta Braves Blueprint for Success
Red Bank, TN-(WDEF-TV) The Red Bank football team might be mimicking the Atlanta Braves this year. Remember how Atlanta hovered around .500 until August before turning it on and winning it all.
Well Red Bank didn’t reach .500 until mid-October, and now they’re red hot heading into the quarterfinals of the playoffs Friday against Upperman.
The Lions weren’t rockin’ and rollin’ to start the year, going 1-3.
Said head coach Chris Brown: “We knew that we graduated several players that were big contributors to our program over the last three years. You know that coupled with a really tough schedule that there would be a lot of growing that would have to go on. We’re not so much caught up in overall record as we are playing our best ball come playoffs.”
Said defensive back Jayden Bacchus: “We had to get all the young players in. We had to get them up-to-date on stuff because we didn’t have that chemistry.”
Oddly enough, it was the loss to Rhea County where the Lions got their roar back.
Said Brown: “You saw some things change and shift as far as physicality and understanding of what we were trying to get done. From there I don’t know if we’ve had a bad practice since.”
Said quarterback Joseph Blackmon: “After out last loss, I knew all the seniors were done losing, and we started leading the team more.”
Lions haven’t lost since, ripping off seven straight wins, including a 28-0 victory over a tough and talented Fayetteville team.
Said Bacchus: “I think that’s the game that sparked us and put us back on the map.”
Red Bank has plenty of play-makers, and it appears they’ve developed the guys that trigger the play-makers.
Said Brown: “It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a good offensive line in front of them. (chuckles) Having a good offensive line where we did have to replace some new starters really makes anybody back there look good including the quarterback, so we’re blessed to have all that.”
