Red Bank Police Dept Hope To Expand

RED BANK, TN, (WDEF)-The Red Bank Police Department has only hired one new officer since 1997.

Chief Tim Christol says they have a strong of team of 23 officers but new additions are necessary.

Red Bank Police say they are doing everything they can to keep this area safe and they are only asking for three more staff to improve on what they are already doing.

Chief Tim Christol,"They are willing to give a hundred and ten percent every single day. The bad thing is, you can only give a hundred and ten percent for so long before you physically burn out"

The department has received overwhelming support to expand their force from the Red Bank community.

"I want to feel safe in my environment, I want my constituents, my customers to be able to come to my business and feel safe"

Some concerned citizens say they don’t see the need for more officers.

Steve patrick, Red Bank Resident, "I think they have plenty, as far as officers go. I see plenty of cars there. I see them up and down the street"

But resident Steve Patrick still says safety is a major concern for his community.

"More officers would be a safer community, it’s hard to argue against that. I don’t know if it’s actually a need for it though"

Chief Christol says there is a demand for these officers as calls to the department have risen by more than 50% in recent years.

However major crimes against people and property have dropped in the Red Bank area.
