Republican Mayoral Candidates Give their Thoughts on the Last Day of their Campaigns

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) — Tomorrow is election day for the Republican and Democratic Primaries.

On the ballot will be four candidates for mayor.

Matt Adams, a democrat, runs unopposed in his primary.

But three Republican candidates will face off for the nomination.

Matt Hullander emphasizes his business experience and clean approach to the race.

“I want to bring leadership. I’ve managed large teams of people in the past. I don’t thin my opponents can say that. I’ve provided vision and mission. I want to create a culture for Hamilton County Employees to be able to thrive and give back to the taxpayers,” said Hullander.

Sabrena Smedley is making public education a priority of her campaign.

“If we really, really, really want to move the needle when it comes to education, we have to go back to where it all begins, and that’s literacy. Only 36 percent of our third graders read on grade level. we’ve got to do a better job,” said Smedley.

This is a quality she shares with Weston Wamp, who has made vocational schools a prime element of his platform.

“We’ve tried to tie together for folks how economic development and workforce development and even crime all points back to public education, which, really, ultimately the measure of the quality of your community is the quality of your public school system,” said Wamp.

One thing all three candidates advocate is that you should go out and vote.

Roughly 19,000 people have already early voted or submitted absentee ballots.
