Rescued Kestrels Released at McDonald Farm
Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) — Two rescued kestrels are getting a second chance at life thanks to the efforts of local wildlife organizations.
Earlier this summer, the Chattanooga Zoo took in two injured birds: a young male that had fallen from its nest and a female suffering from an infection. After months of rehabilitation at HappiNest Raptor Rescue, both birds were released today at McDonald Farm.
Alix Parks, founder of HappiNest Raptor Rescue, described the process:
“Amy called me and she said, ‘I’ve got this little kestrel and I will bring it on.’ I’ve got some others we can put it with, and that’s what we did. He was in really good shape, in perfect feather at that time. After live training and flight conditioning in the larger aviary, you saw what he did today—he flew really well.”
Organizers say they hope this successful release will help raise awareness about the importance of protecting kestrels and other raptor species for the future.
