Reward for suspect in Chickamauga Battlefield deer shooting
FORT OGLETHORPE, Georgia (WDEF) – The National Park Service is offering a reward for information on illegal hunting at the Chickamauga Battlefield.
The case involves the shooting of an 8-point deer last November.
A witness reported the shooting around 6PM at the intersection of Alexander Bridge Road and Brotherton Road.
Even though there are lots of deer in the park, it is not legal to hunt them there.
“Hunting and trapping are national pastimes and have been since Native Americans migrated to the region’s mountains and valleys. Every year, many enthusiasts venture onto private and public lands to hunt small and big game. However, not all public land is open to hunting and trapping, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park being one that is CLOSED to these activities.”
If you have information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of the suspect, please call Park Ranger Justin Young at 706-866-9241, ext. 142.
