Rhea Co Native Lesley Green Wins 10,000 Meter Run For Mocs at SoCon Championships
(gomocs.com) CULLOWHEE, N.C. — Chattanooga distance runner Lesley Green left the field behind and claimed the title in the 10,000 meter run Monday night at the 2023 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Catamount Athletic Complex in Cullowhee, N.C. The Mocs finish the day in fifth behind The Citadel and just ahead of Furman.
The Rhea Co High School grad wore down the competition in the long distance race finishing more than 47 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.
“She ran alone for the last 2.5 miles and won by about 350 meters,” Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said. “It was a very well deserved championship. No one works harder, keeps forcused and remains dedicated to a purpose. She earned this victory for herself and the university.”
Green led wire-to-wire and pulled away to claim the win with a time of 35:09.66. She is a three-time all-conference performer at this distance, earning all-freshman honors in 2021 with a third place finish and repeating the placing in 2022 for her second all-conference finish.
