Rhea County authorities seize illegal drugs at Dayton store

RHEA COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Rhea County authorities seized several items from a store in Dayton for exceeding the allowed THC amount in Tennessee.

On Wednesday, May 8, Rhea County detectives and the TBI served a search warrant on Tammy’s Treasures at 1459 Railroad Street in Dayton.

The sheriff’s office said Tennessee’s Dangerous Drugs Task Force tested products at this business, to find many exceeded the 0.3% THC content that is allowed in the state.

These items included vape pens, cartridges, items listing THC or mushrooms and edibles that look like candy. After being tested, detectives then seized those items from the store.

Sheriff Mike Neal stated there have been numerous incidents of juveniles overdosing at Rhea County schools in 2024. The sheriff’s office has received complaints from family members in the community about a business selling these types of items to those who are underage.

Rhea County school resource deputies said they responded to five overdoses this school year, according to the sheriff. All five were taken to the emergency room for medical treatment. Additionally, one student was given Narcan.

Authorities in Rhea County have also written 43 juvenile court citations. SRDs in the county have written more than 80.
