Riceville woman ordered to pay nearly $27,000 after committing TennCare fraud
MCMINN COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — A Riceville woman has been convicted of TennCare fraud following an investigation by the Office of Inspector General (OIG).
Angel Elrod, 47, pleaded guilty on May 5, 2025 to one count of TennCare fraud after investigators found that she failed to report her 2018 marriage and her husband’s income to the Division of TennCare.
She unlawfully continued to collect benefits for which she was not otherwise eligible.
“This case is a prime example of the importance of timely and accurate reporting of household composition changes by TennCare recipients. Ms. Elrod became married in 2018, but failed to report this change, along with the additional household income, to TennCare until she was confronted during the OIG investigation.”
-Inspector General Chad D. Holman.
As part of her plea deal, Elrod was sentenced to four years of supervised probation and ordered to repay $26,880.47 in restitution to TennCare.
