Ridgeland Coach Wesley Tankersley Discusses First Ever Early Signing Period For HS Football Recruits

We get an early taste of the football recruiting frenzy next week.
Wednesday, December 20th is the first ever early signing period for high school football recruits.
We spoke with Ridgeland head coach Wesley Tankersley about the ramifications of the new signing period.
Normally, kids had to wait until the first of February to sign, but now they can sign in December if they want to.
Tankersley says none of Ridgeland’s recruits are signing early, and he believes the jury is still out on the December date.
Said Tankersley:”In Georgia anyway, they’re just now getting done with the state championships. These kids have been going through their seasons and practices and everything else, and then trying to take official visits during your football season and that sort of thing if you’re still playing, really isn’t very easy. You know that’s not a very easy thing to do. I wouldn’t be surprised if they go back and change some things again. I think if anything it’s probably for them, they’re kind of experimenting with it a little bit to see if it’s something that’s going to be good for the student-athlete or not.”
