Ridgeland Scoring Over 40 Points a Game With Undersized Offensive Line

Rossville, GA-(WDEF) When the Ridgeland offensive line gets off the bus, one Panthers assistant coach jokes that it looks like the middle school team.
Ridgeland is undersized on the offensive line this season, yet the Panthers are still averaging over forty-points a game.
Ridgeland coach Wesley Tankersley says he has one offensive lineman that’s 6’3, 280-pounds. After that, there’s a big drop-off in size.
Said offensive lineman Christian Gentry-“My height. I’m about 5’8 and I weigh about 200-pounds.”
Reporter-“Your left tackle. That’s always the blind side. He weighs 190?”
Said offensive lineman Will Hodges-“Yep. He’s the same size as me.”
Said Gentry-“Being a small offensive lineman everybody is just like, there’s no way. Then they realize our whole offensive line is that small. Then they’re like, oh, maybe so.”
Reporter-“Did you sense that the O-line may be a little undersized at all?”
Hodges-“A little bit I guess. Lot of our backs and stuff give us a hard time about it because they’re about the same size as us.”
But Tankersley says his small offensive linemen inspire the rest of his guys.
Said Tankersley-“I think it really rubs off on everybody else on the team as far as learning how to be a physical football player. If I’m a 185-pound running back, and I’ve got a 185-pound guard, then I should be able to block just as good as he does.”
Said Gentry-“It’s definitely a blast in the film room after you put up 46-points on a team that’s two-times your size. Eveybody is just whipping everybody’s tail.”
Tankersley-“We scrimmaged Dalton, and they had two 300-pounders inside at tackle and nose. Those guys went toe-to-toe with them the whole time and didn’t back down.”
So how are the undersized Panthers getting the job done in the trenches?
Said Gentry-“We try to use the snap-count to our advantage. Being so small, you have to be fast, which means you stay low, and lower teams always win.”
Said Hodges-“It also helps you play harder because you get out there and you’re like I have to play harder to hang with these bigger guys like that.”
