Ringgold Baseball Team Always Ready to Grind
Rossville, GA-(WDEF-TV) Every time a player puts on that Ringgold High School baseball jersey, pressure gets added to their shoulders. But the Ringgold team is showing they know how to handle it. News 12’s Brian Armstrong sees how a one-two punch can really make a season special.
Said head coach Drew Walker:”Some years, you love coming to work more than others. This is one of those years. These guys love the grind. Our coaching staff loves to grind, so we get along really well, and these guys just come to work every day.”
Ringgold High School baseball carries with it a strong tradition. We know what that English R brings and we know what that tradition brings every day,and we don’t take that lightly.
Said pitcher Ross Norman:” We come every day ready to go, and we love that grind. Each and every one of us walk into that locker room, you know it’s go time. Even on the field, if you walk out through those lines, it’s ready to go.”
Said pitcher Sebastian Haggard:”It’s definitely about putting in the work.We have practice almost every day.We don’t have games. We might have one day off, but, I mean, eventhat day, if you want to get better, you’re there that day and you’re working no matter what. And with tradition comes pressure.”
But Coach says pressure is privilege.
Said Walker: They know that there’s pressure coming in this program, and every time they come out, it’s sometimes somebody’s championship. If they come out and have a good game against you
When it gets put on you, you got to be ready, and you put in the work and you’re there.
So, I mean, it’s all up to you. You got to do it.You got to do what you got to do.Say, suck it up and just go.
The way to handle that pressure is by handing the ball over to a couple of aces.
Said Walker: We have two Sebastian Haggard and Ross Norman with us here are one and two pitchers. So but these guys come out. They’ve been bulldogs all year long.Pitching and defense has been our staple all year long, and now the bats are starting to come on.
Each pitcher’s end goal is to win a state title, but they’re able to celebrate accomplishments throughout the season, like hitting 93 miles an hour
Said Norman: felt awesome.I’ve been working for a long time for that, and it felt great to achieve that. Keep going and just keep going for more.
How do you try to match your teammates arm?
Said Haggard It’s so hard.Try to get more cases kind of hard, but make it work.
Or beating Baylor, pitching against Baylor,
Said Haggard Like, it was so fun. They’re a great team, and just pitching against them and having the opportunity to get some of them out is pretty awesome.
