Ringgold Prepares For Region Showdown With Calhoun
Ringgold, GA (WDEF) Ringgold didn’t get much of a break when Cartersville left their region this season.
The Tigers welcomed powerhouse Calhoun to their region.
On Friday, Ringgold gets a chance to see how they measure up against a powerhouse program.
Calhoun made the Georgia Dome their second home with five consecutive trips to the Double-A state title game.
Ringgold coach Robert Akins doesn’t expect much of a drop-off as the Yellow Jackets move up to the Tigers region in Class 3A.
"This team is very disciplined. They’re very athletic. Very talented. You try to find weaknesses and exploit them, but there are none."
Said Ringgold running back Kile Sholl,"You always see them at the Dome. We’ve always wanted that here. For them to be in our region, it’s going to give us a little extra to get something on them."
Added Ringgold running back D.J. Goins,"I know what they’re about. They’re a big, tough team. So we’re going to have to come out here and play with nothing but toughness."
Friday’s matchup will be the first meeting between the two schools in almost thirty years.
Said Sholl,"This game is going to kind of be like a playoff type game. People are going to come from Calhoun, and it’s going to be packed on our side. Should be a good environment. Should be a great game."
Said Goins,"These are always fun games. They always say those big time games that you’ve got to have those big time plays. So that’s what we are coming out here to do."
Ringgold didn’t have much fun a couple of weeks ago, losing 35-0 to Adairsville.
The Tigers hope that loss will be a catalyst for tonight and the rest of the year.
Said Akins,"When we got down there it seemed like a day where we were in the ‘Twilight Zone’. Everything went wrong. We just couldn’t respond. We couldn’t pick ourselves back up."
Said Sholl,"We definitely got put in our place by Adairsville. I think it kind of woke some of us up. I think we needed that. We needed that humbling game for us. But I think we’re in a better place now, and our offense is getting it going in the right direction."
