Ringgold’s Zach Morris Set to Take His Talents To Duke
Ringgold, GA-(WDEF) Zach Morris looks like a college football player right now, standing 6’5, and weighing 285-pounds.
Said Ringgold football coach Robert Akins,"Well usually playing defensive end, people would run away from him. Zach is at a point right now where he is squatting over 500 pounds. He’s benching close to 400 pounds. He’s just a strong, tough kid."
Morris has been a monster on the mound for Ringgold this year as well, where he hasn’t lost a game.
Said Ringgold baseball coach Brent Tucker,"It amazed me that he could get his arm back in the correct slot for pitching, but he can. Most of our pitchers getting loose for a game want 30 or 35 pitches. Zach wants about six, and we push him to ten, which makes him a really good reliever."
Despite a strong arm, Morris did not warm up to playing quarterback.
"I thought it would be a lot of fun. My dad tried to talk me into it. I didn’t feel like that was for me."
Back in February, Morris signed to play college football at Duke, where he plans to major in pre-med.
Said Akins,"To send a kid to Duke, and to know he’s going to be set for life if he does what he’s supposed to do, is very important to us."
Said Morris,"It’s a really small campus. Everybody knew who you were once you walked on. I just knew that’s where I wanted to be, and the education, you can’t beat it."
Morris will leave for Duke on May 12th, so if the Ringgold baseball team is in the playoffs, Morris will be in Durham.
"We have a really good team. I know they’ll be fine without me. Some people will have to step up, but they can do it. I know they can."
