Riverbend Band Takes A Stand Against Bullying

Jetset Getset is an up and coming group set to play Riverbend on Sunday. They hope one special song hits the right note with the right people.
"We’ve all had our own unique experiences with bullying and we all equally have a passion to try to stop it. Our song "Stronger" was actually written with the message in mind that there is a light at the end of the tunnel," said co-lead singer Avery Eliason.
Bullying continues to be a national issue. 83 percent of girls and 79 percent of boys say they’ve either been bullied in school or on-line. Thanks to social media, cyber bullying can reach kids where they used to feel safest, their home.
"Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, all that stuff, people can definitely bully to a new level, and bully at a constant rate, and keep it going through the night"
Jetset Getset guitarist Justen Jette admits in the past, he didn’t do enough to stop bullies and sometimes joined in. It’s a big reason why the group wants to help others climb out of the shadow of bullying.
"When I heard the song, it hit me and meant a lot to me. I used to bully a little bit. I didn’t help kids that were bullied like I should have, but I regret doing that now. It is hard for me to think about not helping those kids. It’s just not a cool thing to do. If I could go back I would definitely help those kids."
Music is a way of life for the group. After taking the stage at Riverbend Sunday night, they hope one song has impacted at least one person to do the right thing.
"The most important part is the way we make people feel and we want them to feel better about themselves and uplifted and wanting to help others as they listen to our music," said Eliason.
"If it gets to one person we did our job, and if it gets to a lot more than that we did our job even better," added Jette.
The group will hold a special concert at the Creative Discovery Museum on Sunday at 2pm. That’s followed by a question and answer session on bullying.
You can catch Jetset Getset on the TVFCU stage at Riverbend starting at 6:15 Sunday.
