Road closures taking place across Dalton due to unsafe conditions

DALTON, Ga. (WDEF) —  Winter weather has prompted the closure of some roads in Dalton, including the Waugh Street hill between Shugart Road and Walston Street, as well as Tony Ingle Parkway/Dug Gap Mountain Road, which remains closed across the mountain.

Snow accumulation and icy conditions have made these routes impassable.

Residents are strongly urged to avoid unnecessary travel this morning.

Dalton’s Public Works Department has been working diligently to treat roads with salt brine, deploy plows, and spread additional salt, but snow continues to accumulate in some areas, and slush is freezing into ice, creating hazardous conditions.

Crews will remain active throughout the day to address the situation, but officials are asking for patience and cooperation from the public to ensure everyone’s safety.

Delaying non-essential trips will help expedite the cleanup process and reduce the risk of accidents.
