Rock Spring head-on crash results in 2 fatalities

WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — Two vehicles were involved in a fatal head-on crash in Rock Spring, Georgia on Thursday.

The crash happened shortly after 9 a.m. on State Route 1 (Highway 27) near Fields Drive, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

A 2012 GMC Terrain was traveling south on Highway 27 and a 2015 Cadillac SRX was traveling north.

Authorities said the GMC crossed over into the northbound lanes and hit the Cadillac head on.

Jerry Glenn Payne, who was driving the GMC, died at the scene.

EMS transported the driver of the other vehicle, Tonya-Joan Marie Overbay, to the hospital with serious injuries. The Walker County Coroner advised that Overbay succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

Another person, Cameron Eli Lyons, was in the GMC at the time of the crash. Lyons is in the hospital in critical condition, GSP said.

The cause of the crash is still unknown at this time.
