Rodney Henderson Pacing Tyner’s Scoring Attack
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Tyner battles for their district tournament championship tonight.
Expect the Rams to follow the lead of Rodney Henderson, who has developed into one of the top players in Chattanooga.
News 12’s Brian Armstrong catches up with the Rams scoring machine.
Said head coach E.J. Ward: “We feel comfortable going into games knowing that we do have the best player.”
Tyner’s Rodney Henderson is leading this team into the postseason through experience and scoring.
Said Ward: ” His teammates feel good when they come out of the locker room with him. Like I said, um, you know, he has the most experience on the team. Um, his freshman year, we made it to the state. We actually made it to the second round of the state, one game away from the state championship game. So, um, he know what it’s like to be in those pressure situations.
Said Henderson: “Not gonna lie, scoring, it really, it’s really becoming easy because the defense. They give me one thing and I just take it.”
But scoring isn’t the only thing Henderson has brought to this Rams team.
Said Ward: “It’s the game of basketball. You need somebody who can score. Um, so I think, you know, with the attention that right and it gets, we have other guys that can play as well. So he’s able to draw so much attention and he’s able to get his other guys involved.”
Said Henderson: “Great team player. Um, play great defense and I can just I can also pass the ball as well.”
But when he does score, he does it in style.
Said Henderson: When I do it like that, the crowd goes like that. I really don’t let the crowd just get into me. I just stay humble.”
Coach Ward has been impressed and proud of the steps Henderson has taken as he’s changed from an underclassman to team leader.
Said Ward: “Early on, he just brought scoring when he’s nice and great. So this year rely on him and do a little bit more than just scored a ball. He’s been a great leader. Um, he’s been getting his teammates involved and he’s just being that guy with the most leadership on the team.”
