Rollover car crash leaves 1 dead, Catoosa County authorities say

CATOOSA COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) – A car crashed on Dedmon Road in Catoosa County Thursday evening, according to a county spokesman.

Catoosa County firefighters arrived at the scene to find two people trapped in the car.

They said the car left the road and rolled onto its side just before 7 p.m.

First responders extricated both occupants from the car. However, the passenger was declared dead at the scene.

Georgia State Patrol (GSP) identified the passenger as 33-year-old James Fruit.

GSP identified the driver as 30-year-old James Bennett. Responders airlifted him to Erlanger in Chattanooga for treatment.

His current condition is unknown.

GSP is still investigating the crash, but they believe speed and alcohol were involved.
