Rolls Royce Hosts Event at Chatt State
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Rolls Royce was on Chatt State’s campus today with a great opportunity for students.
Rolls Royce doesn’t just make luxury cars. They also make jet engines and atomic reactors.
Thursday, they hosted an event at Chatt State encouraging students to come work for them.
Rolls Royce says they need Non-destructive testing specialists. Those specialists would get to inspect parts for airplanes and nuclear reactors.
Non-destructive testing is a method of testing without destroying, disturbing, or disrupting a product.
The pay is good too, upwards of six figures with just an associate’s degree.
Peter Wood, Rolls Royce NDT Technical Supervisor told us, “For us we really see it as a sweet spot between people who can combine that academic background and those practical skills and we think that a mix of an associate’s degree, plus the early careers program with Rolls Royce really hits that sweet spot for career development, and that’s why we’re here today.”
The entire industry has seen a shortage of new NDT technicians.
As the current workforce ages, there hasn’t been a new crop to replace them.
Ms. Clifford told us that there will be a severe shortage within as little as five years.
Rolls Royce is recruiting new technicians right off of Chatt State’s campus.
