Rome woman charged with insurance fraud of $1.5 million
ROME, Ga. (WDEF) — A Rome, Georgia woman has been charged with insurance fraud and forgery, according to the Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner.
Commissioner John F. King said authorities charged 54-year-old Denna Rochelle Conaway with three separate incidents.
The commissioner said Conaway filed three separate accident claims between October 2022 and January 2023. She had submitted medical invoices for hospitalizations outside of Georgia.
She tried to obtain over $1.5 million in fraudulent payments from Guardian Insurance Company, according to Commissioner King.
Authorities then arrested Conaway on September 27. They also say she is in custody of the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.
“Ms. Conaway’s first fraudulent invoice claimed she was hospitalized in Yuma, Arizona, and she received just over $10,000 in payment from the insurance company,” said Commissioner King. “After this apparent success, Ms. Conaway went on to file claims using forged invoices for hospitalizations in Miami, Florida and Los Angeles, California. However, the hospitals had no record of Ms. Conaway being a patient at their facilities, and her claims were rightly denied.”
