Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway
The road between St. Elmo and the state of Georgia will get a new name.
It will soon be known as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway.
But not everyone is happy about it.
Two Republican state lawmakers helped get the name changed.
But Representative Gerald McCormick and former Representative Vince Dean don’t actually represent the area.
Residents just found out about the name change last month.
Local business owner Manny Rico says there’s a reason some of them are not happy.
"Yeah, there’s a group, probably a group, you know of mostly Democrats that don’t like it because Reagan was a Republican. Other than that, I don’t think the majority of people care, as long as the state keeps the road fixed. That’s the important thing."
Officials say there won’t be any ceremony when the new signs go up between St. Elmo and Georgia.
