Running for Ecuador mission trip

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF) – Two UTC students are using running and walking as a way to go on a mission trip to Ecuador.

Korie Hawthorne and Lauren Odon put on a 5k and 10k for runners and walkers to raise $700 to go on a mission trip to Ecuador.

They wanted to make a difference in the country and the biggest difficulty for it is paying for the trip.

They will be assisting an orphanage and its staff when the trip is scheduled to take place in July.

Korie Hawthorne, “In Ecuador, there’s an orphanage that we partner with. It’s called For His Children. So we just hang out with the tia’s, which are the ladies that work there and then we hang out with just the kids and just give the tia’s a break by hanging out with them.”

Lauren Odon, “When she asked me, I, of course, was like, that sounds like an amazing opportunity and then immediately my brain goes to like, okay, how are we gonna raise money for this? And so, they normally would host like a 5K or 10k to start the fundraising for this.”
