S Moore Rd and McBrien Rd bridges set to open ahead of schedule
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announced the new S Moore Road and McBrien Road bridges are set to open ahead of schedule.
The reopening will start at 6:00 AM ET on Monday, November 25, 2024.
The completion comes more than two months ahead of schedule.
The bridges are part of Phase 2 of the project to enhance the I-75/I-24 interchange.
They were reconstructed to accommodate the widening of I-24 underneath, a critical upgrade aimed at improving traffic flow and safety.
“Completing the new S Moore Road and McBrien Road bridges over I-24 is a major project milestone,” said Danny Oliver, Assistant Chief Engineer for TDOT Region 2. “Opening them both ahead of schedule is a collaborative effort and testament to the effectiveness of the project’s alternative delivery team.”
Key improvements of the ongoing project include:
- Widening I-75 and I-24 near the split, with all interchange ramps expanded to three lanes.
- Upgrades to entrance and exit ramps at North and South Terrace.
- Installation of a new storm drainage system, median barriers, guardrails, signage, and lighting.
- Construction of new retaining walls and noise barriers.
- Rehabilitation of existing concrete pavement.
- Replacement of the I-75 bridge over the CSX railroad.
This work is weather-dependent. If inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances cause delays, opening plans will be rescheduled.
