Sales tax holidays begin next week in Alabama

FORT PAYNE, Ala. (WDEF) – Despite the summer heat, the return of school is just around the corner.

Which means sales tax holidays are also about to take place.

The state of Alabama will go first in our area with a sales tax holiday next weekend.

It starts next weekend on Friday, July 21 and goes through Sunday, July 23.

Cotton State Boutique is a local children’s clothing store that has operated in Fort Payne for three years.

They say the sales tax holiday is one of their busiest times of year.

Courtney Wilson, the owner, Cotton State Boutique, “Who doesn’t want to save extra money? Your children grow out of clothes, so every year before you start school, you likely are going to need new clothes, and most likely need other new stuff. Not only can you get discounts on clothes, but you also can get discounts on other necessities that you have to have for school like backpacks, lunchboxes and stuff. We do have those kind of things as well.”

Georgia and North Carolina do not have scheduled sales tax holidays.

Tennessee does have their sales tax holiday scheduled for the weekend after on July 28 through July 30.

Tennessee also will have a grocery tax holiday through the entire month of August.
