Salvation Army asks for help in ‘Beat the Heat’ program
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — As temperatures reach summer highs, many are turning to The Salvation Army for relief from the heat.
Through the ‘Beat the Heat’ program, Salvation Army has partnered with local organizations to give out free resources to help those in need.
Box fans, cooling towels, and ice packs are just some of the items they are in need of.
With community help, they are hoping to relieve people who are suffering in the summer heat.
“One of the things we need is water. We go through close to about 20-25 cases of water per week. And we really need the community support to make sure we can meet that need during the summertime,” Area Commander for the Greater Chattanooga Salvation Army Major Douglas McClure said.
As temperatures increase, it’s crucial for those experiencing homelessness to have access to water.
Additionally, The Salvation Army provides water at an outdoor hydrating station at its 614 Corps Day Shelter located at 800 McCallie Avenue.
The program will help low-income individuals and families living in the Tennessee Valley, Greater Chattanooga area and Ocoee region through August 31.
