Salvation Army now distributing Angel Tree gifts

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Salvation Army is having their annual Angel Tree distribution.

They are distributing the gifts at 1010 N. Moore Road from Monday, December 18 to Wednesday, December 20.

Families who are less fortunate will get the gifts and needs they asked for this Christmas, thanks to the kindhearted people of Chattanooga.

“We have over 4,300 people that we are serving through this program and it’s not just the Salvation Army that’s serving for them. Honestly if it wasn’t for our community, we couldn’t do all this,” said Douglas McClure, Area Commander of the Salvation Army in Chattanooga.

The Salvation Army guarantees each kid gets at least two to three toy items and a pair of clothes or shoes in their angel tree package.

“If you’re a donor and you buy more for your Angel family, then they get everything… But we guarantee every family and kid gets what they need to have a wonderful Christmas,” said McClure.

The Angel Tree distribution hits home for McClure as he understands what this means the families who aren’t fortunate enough to get what they want and need for Christmas.

“My wife was an Angel Tree recipient and used to get those bags we give out today, and she’s been working with the program for over 20 years now. So, this is always a special time for her because she loves to see the smiles on the families who are receiving a bag full of gifts,” said McClure.
