Salvation Army’s ‘Bacon and Boxers’ to serve local men in need
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga’s Salvation Army is hosting a “Bacon and Boxers” event in April, to serve unhoused and underserved men in the community.
It will take place at the Salvation Army’s ReCreate Cafe, located at 800 McCallie Avenue. The event will last from 10 a.m. until noon on Thursday, April 4.
The Salvation Army will serve a brunch to attendees. Guests will also receive essential items, including undergarments and hygiene products.
This is an annual event, as is the “Mardi Bras” event for women that takes place in February.
“We understand the importance of providing dignity and essential items to those who are facing difficult circumstances,” said Major Douglas McClure, Area Commander for The Salvation Army in Chattanooga. “Through events like ‘Bacon and Boxers,’ we aim to not only meet immediate needs but also to show compassion and support to those in our community who need it most.”
In addition, the Salvation Army is asking the public to donate items to help support the event.
They are in need of men’s boxers, pocket t-shirts, socks, deodorant, shaving cream and razors.
