Sand Mountain crash leaves 2 dead, 1 injured

UPDATE:

The Georgia State Patrol says they have not yet been able to identify the vehicle involved in this crash. This is because of the severity of the fire damage to the car.

GSP said involved car left the road, hit an embankment and then crashed into a tree. They said the car then flipped over and became fully engulfed in flames.

The two people who died in the crash were in the front seats.

The rear passenger did escape, according to GSP. They said that person’s injuries were serious.

Authorities are still investigating this incident. GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting as well.

DADE COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — Two people died in a single-vehicle crash Monday morning on Sand Mountain.

According to the Dade County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened on Brow Road, between New Home Road and Wells Road.

One car hit a tree around 2 a.m., on December 11.

There were three people in the car. One was able to crawl out and escape.

The other two occupants died as a result of the crash.

Dade County Sheriff Ray Cross said it appeared the car caught on fire following the crash.

Brow Road was closed temporarily while rescue teams worked the site. It has since reopened.

First responders took the one survivor to the hospital. That person had injuries that were not life-threatening, the sheriff said.

Authorities did not say what caused the crash.

So far, they have not identified those involved.
