Scammer claims to represent Dalton Fire Department

DALTON, Ga. (WDEF) — The City of Dalton is warning the public of scam phone calls. One Dalton resident received a call from someone claiming to represent the Dalton Fire Department. This person was requesting donations to benefit the fire department.

“The Dalton Fire Department and Dalton Police Department would not call residents to solicit money,” Communication Director Bruce Frazier said.

The resident received the phone call from 888-834-1474. The city said the scammer was soliciting “donations” and requesting credit or debit card information.

Dalton City said the resident suspected the call was a scam. They hung up and called the Dalton Fire Department to determine whether the call was real or a scam.

They said that anyone receiving this type of phone call should simply hang up.

If anyone had received a similar call and did give out their card information, they should contact the Dalton Police Department. They say you can call 706-278-9085 to make a report.
