Schools closing due to sickness
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Many schools are closing around the Chattanooga area, and it’s not for winter break.
There has been an uptick in sickly kids and adults as covid, flu, and an unknown virus is spreading around.
Urgent care centers are taking on heavy volumes of people in the last few weeks.
“We’re seeing about sixty percent kids and forty percent adults. It has really gotten big in the last two to three weeks and I’ve noticed a pretty big uptick and were taking some heavy volumes now,” said Dr. Todd Hold of NiteOwl After Hours Urgent Care.
Dr. Hold added there’s one unknown respiratory virus that has been going around that doesn’t show up on covid or flu test. Which raises some concern for what it might be.
“There’s also some kind of illness that is presenting with more of a G.I. fatigue fever that is not testing positive for flu, covid, or RSV. We are kind of uncertain what that’s all about, but it is also presenting a pretty high volume and having pretty significant impacts,” said Dr. Hold.
