SCOTTSBORO, Al. (WDEF) —  A man was arrested in Scottsboro over the weekend after he allegedly shot an officer and evaded authorities for almost an entire day.

On Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 12:49 a.m., Scottsboro Police Department (SPD) personnel responded to Ruth Street for a domestic incident.

When officers arrived on scene, the suspect fled in a vehicle, and officers initiated a pursuit.

SPD said the pursuit ended in a crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 72 and County Park Road.

The suspect, later identified as Daniel McCarn, exited the vehicle and fired shots, striking an officer.

McCarn fled from the scene on foot, and a manhunt ensued.

At 9:56 p.m., a business owner in the 2000 block of Larkinsville Road reported spotting McCarn on their security camera.

Authorities responded to the business and deployed a drone where they detected a heat signal in the nearby area.

Authorities located and arrested McCarn without incident.

He was taken to the Jackson County Jail on multiple felony charges.

No update has been provided on the officer who was struck by gunfire.
