‘Sea Bass’ Helps Lead the Charge For Ringgold Baseball
Ringgold, GA-(WDEF-TV) When the Ringgold baseball team needs a clutch hit or strikeout, they turn to Sebastian Haggard, better known as Sea Bass.
Next fall, he’ll likely become the first person named Sea Bass to walk the halls of an Ivy League school.
News 12’s Brian Armstrong has the low down on Sea Bass.
Said Ringgold head coach Drew Walker:”He has done what it takes to prepare, and that’s why he’s able to do what he does on the field.”
Ringgold’s number one pitcher, Sebastian Haggard, has been called Seabass for as long as he can remember.
Said Haggard:”My mom, she owns a business and one of her business partners, he used to call me growing up, and it’s really stuck. It’s never changed. My parents don’t even use my real name anymore. It’s always been Seabass.”
The debate now is where the name originates.
Said Walker:”So when I think about Seabass, you know, we’d think about Dumb and Dumber and Seabass in the booth there in the diner.”
Said Haggard:”I don’t think so. There’s no way. Why? My parents, like, we watched Dumb and Dumber, but, like, we never, like, loved the movie. Okay, we, I wouldn’t say we watched it a lot growing up, but, uh, yeah, I don’t think so. ”
Seabass is quite the opposite of Dumb and Dumber, as he’s going to play baseball at Penn.”
Said Haggard:”My mom, you know, she’s a, she was a valedictorian out of high school, and she, uh, she loves Seabass. Have me have good grades. You know, she’s always been on it. And, uh, my dad’s more baseball. And for me it was really kind of the both best of both worlds. And last year Penn was ridiculously good. And on top of that, their school is, I mean, it’s unbeatable.”
