Search continues for missing student in mountains of Monroe County

TELLICO PLAINS, Tennessee (WDEF) – Search crews have returned to the Cherohala Skyway area to search for a missing student.

48 year old Veronica Casciato is a work study student at Lincoln Memorial University on the Tennessee/Kentucky border.

She disappeared on April 6th after leaving work.

Her car was found on Highway 165 which connects Tellico Plains in Tennessee and Robbinsville in North Carolina.

It was abandoned near Eagle Gap at the top of the mountain.

Crews searched for Casciato in Eagle Gap back then, but gave up after finding nothing.

Now they tell WVLT news that they are searching a ravine that couldn’t be reached before.
