SEC Rivalry Continues With Super Bowl Teams
Atlanta, GA-(WDEF-TV) The Super Bowl may not be a reunion of SEC players, but there will be plenty of SEC guys on the playing field Sunday in Atlanta. News 12’s Angela Moryan has more.
The SEC is dominant in college football, proven by the fact that an SEC team has appeared in every single college football playoff since its beginning in 2014. In fact, the SEC holds the record for number of appearances and wins over any other conference in college football. The SEC doesn’t just dominate the college football realm. In fact there are 20 different players playing in Super Bowl 53 that hail from SEC schools.
Reporter: “A lot of sec guys in the locker room, is there a little bit of SEC rivalry?”
Said Patriots center David Andrews and former Georgia Bulldog, “(laughs) You know I like to do a little trash talking, I got a Georgia shirt, and I wear it every day. That’s usually my routine.”
Said Patriots receiver Cordarrelle Patterson and former Vol, “I mean you got all those guys this and that man but they already know who the best team in the SEC is. I don’t have to say it. They all know who the best team is.”
Reporter, “Cordarrelle said everyone in the locker room knew Tennessee is the best team in the SEC.”
Said Andrews, “no no no no.”
Said Rams linebacker Ramik Wilson and former Bulldog, “Be nice to the Georgia guys even if they’re on the other team.”
Reporter, “So that means you’re not going to tackle Sony Michel?”
Said Wilson, “Oh no, he’s going to feel us.”
Said Patriots running back Sony Michel and former Bulldog, “I think Georgia does a tremendous job preparing guys for the next level, whether its the NFL or in the corporate world or whatever they want to do. I think they do a great job of taking young boys from high school and turning them into young men.”
The SEC makes up one fifth of the power five conferences. Between the Rams and Patriots 53 man rosters, SEC players make up 20 percent of the 106 players there. They’ll all be holding a ball just like this come Sunday.
