CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga authorities are working to evacuate some of the downtown area due to a chemical spill which is actively leaking.

The Chattanooga Fire Department said a tractor trailer wrecked and rolled over just after 6 p.m. on Monday. This was at Riverfront Parkway and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

According to firefighters, the semi-truck has 13 totes of chemicals on board. That includes 42,000 pounds of muriatic acid and organic peroxide.

One of those totes is leaking onto the metal of the truck, according to CFD.

Fire officials are evacuated businesses and residents in a quarter mile radius. That includes from Riverfront Parkway to Molly Lane, and west of the accident to the river.

It is possible that authorities could expand that evacuation site.

The Avondale Community Center is open for anyone needing shelter during this time.

Hazmat crews are on scene at this time, according to CFD. They say Marion Environment, a cleanup crew, is also on the way.

No one has been injured as a result of this incident. No one has been exposed to any chemicals either, according to firefighters.
