Senate Special Committee Recommends Income Tax Changes in Georgia
GEORGIA — A Senate special committee is recommending a major overhaul of the income tax in Georgia.
They are proposing making the first 50-thousand dollars of income for individuals or a hundred thousand for joint filers to be tax free.
Then if you make more than that, it would be taxed.
The final report says their plan would totally eliminate the state income tax for two thirds of working Georgians.
Two of the committee members are running for higher office this year, including Burt Jones who is running for Governor.
If lawmakers approve it, the tax cut would take affect next year.
They return to the capital for a new session next week.
