Senior citizens vote to receive property tax exemption
DALTON, Ga. (WDEF) – Senior Citizens will soon have the chance to vote and receive property tax exemption in Whitfield County.
Residents aged 65 and older will get up to $150,000 on their county tax.
Those aged 70 and older will get up to $250,000 with no income test.
County leaders say the tax exemption is important to support seniors.
Registration is available at the Tax Commissioner’s Office for both school and county.
If approved, voting will begin in November, and will go into effect next tax season.
Whitfield County Board of Commissioner’s Chairman Jevin Jensen said, “There is a lot of seniors on social security or pensions that their income doesn’t keep up with inflation, their struggling with prescription drugs high grocery bills for sure so this is one way to give back.”
