Sequatchie County Schools student taken into custody for making threat

SEQUATCHIE COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Office has taken a student into custody after making a threat to another student.

The sheriff’s office did not specify which school faced the threat. However, they said there was no threat against the school at large.

Instead, one student threatened another after a disagreement among friends, Sheriff Bill Phillips stated.

Law enforcement investigated the threat overnight. They then took that student into custody Tuesday morning prior to the school opening. The sheriff’s office said they did so to assure the student could not be an active threat to any students.

They did not find any weapon, list or other evidence to suggest there was a threat to the school.

Authorities have disciplined and criminally charged the student.

The sheriff’s office will not release any information on the student because they are a juvenile.

Director of Schools Sarai Pierce and Sequatchie County Sheriff Bill Phillips added this statement:

“If you or your student ever have any concerns of this nature, please contact the school immediately.

If it is after hours, there is a tip line on our website at www.sequatchieschools.net.”
