Sequoyah High School Student Replace Markers at Windy Hill Cemetery

SODDY DAISY, TN (WDEF) – Headstones are supposed to be lasting reminders of those who came before us, but time, the elements and vandals can make them hard to read.

Thankfully, kids at Sequoyah High School created lasting grave makers in their machine shop.

Names and other vital information are engraved on aluminum blocks.

The blocks are then welded onto a bracket with some rebar that is buried deep enough so they can’t be easily moved.

Student David Massengale teamed up with Steve Smith of the Soddy Daisy Historical Association.

They recently placed 7 markers in the ground at Windy Circle.

For them, it’s all about preserving our history.
