7 educators win scholarships at retired teacher’s picnic

HIXSON, Tenn. (WDEF) – Several current and future educators received big help Friday for their future careers.

Seven scholarships were awarded as part of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County’s Retired Teachers Association’s annual picnic at Chester Frost Park.

Around 80 former teachers attended the event.

The annual Chattanooga-Hamilton County’s Retired Teachers Association’s annual picnic at Chester Frost Park.

The event celebrated both those who have served the community in our schools and lent a helping hand to those who will teach the next generation.

Katie Martin, an English teacher at East Hamilton High, was one of the recipients receiving $2,000 for her master’s program.

Martin said, “It’s important to me because I’ve got a goal of becoming a high school administrator and so being able to use that money to continue that education and learn not only from the room full of educators in here but from the teachers that are teaching me and the mentors on campus, the scholarship just goes a long way.”

CHARTA is the largest retired teachers association in our area.
