Several Mission Glen residents call for Chair Shannon Whitfield resignation
WALKER COUNTY, Georgia (WDEF) – A group of 20 people or so walked down Main Street with a police escort to the Walker County Commissioners’ meeting.
Several Mission Glen residents called for Commissioner Shannon Whitfield to resign for what they said was illegally passing if a rezoning near ridge land high school.
“This is his job. He does this all the time. It was not a mistake. He had opposition against him, heavy opposition. He coward, he coward to it. He thought he was smarter than us and then he could just slide this in under the table,” said Kisha Parker.
After everyone spoke during the meeting, Whitfield said it was an honest mistake and the rezoning is back on the agenda for the public to attend.
“We didn’t advertise in the legal organ. We advertised on Facebook, we advertised on our website, advertised on our Wednesday night TV show, and even sent letters to all the residents of Mission Glenn said the step we missed was advertising the meeting in the legal organ which would have been the Walker County messenger,” said Whitfield.
Residents don’t want to rezone as they feel the area can’t support any more traffic.
“The traffic is horrible. It’s horrible it backs up all the way down 28. Like I said people are wrecking there all the time it’s hard to get your children in and out safely and nothing is being done,” said Parker.
“Growth is not always easy and I know they’re feeling the pressure of growth of the traffic. We’re definitely going to address those traffic concerns. You know anytime you have growth creates more traffic and you have to widen roads and put in sidewalks,” said Whitfield.
Those calling for Whitfield’s resignation don’t think he was honest during his apology and are calling for an investigation
