Sexual battery charges and lawsuit against Dalton Police officer

DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – A former Dalton Police officer faces both criminal charges and a civil lawsuit involving accusations of sexual battery.

The accuser in the case was an intern for the department.

She says Officer Ethan Wayne Pugh forced her to perform a sex act on him in 2019.

The GBI investigated and Pugh was arrested last week.

He was charged with violation of oath by a public officer, sexual battery, aggravated sexual battery and public indecency.

He resigned his position on the day of his arrest.

The lawsuit claims the victim was a 21 year old woman who became an intern to continue a four generation career in law enforcement.

She says she was in the car with officer Pugh when he made sexual advances.

She says he threatened to rape her if she did not perform an act on him.

Afterwards, he threatened her to keep quiet or his wife would come after her.

The complainant says he continued to contact her even after the internship.

She kept the secret for more a year until she became friends with the director of a sexual abuse center and confided in her.

Her attorney says the young woman says she will be happy that Pugh won’t be able to do something like this to others.

But she is rethinking her law enforcement career.
