Sheriff: Detectives find $630,000 worth of fentanyl in storage unit
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Hamilton County narcotics detectives searched a storage unit on Monday and found a duffle bag labeled “Drug Money” containing fentanyl.
Authorities learned a large quantity of drugs were being stored at that location following an investigation.
Inside the bag, detectives found 5.25 kilograms of fentanyl, which was “broken down for street-level distribution,” the sheriff’s office explained. They also seized digital scales and a handgun.
The sheriff’s office said the street value of these drugs is about $630,000.
Sheriff Austin Garrett made this statement on the drug bust:
“A dealer may find it amusing to keep drugs in a bag labeled ‘Drug Money,’ but there’s nothing funny about distributing poison like fentanyl and methamphetamine in our community. These drugs are indiscriminately killing our citizens. Let this drug seizure serve as a clear message from me, if you sell this poison in our community, the next knock on your door might be from my Narcotics Unit or SWAT Team executing a search warrant or an arrest warrant. Remember, the Sheriff’s Office still makes house calls.”
Hamilton County authorities are still investigating.
