Sheriff’s office charges student with making bomb threat at Tyner Academy

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office says they have arrested an underage student for making a bomb threat last week toward Tyner Academy.

The bomb threat came in on February 15, and authorities began investigating.

Now, they have arrested who they believe was responsible. The HCSO said this was a student from another school.

The student made the threat as a prank call, according to the sheriff’s office. Detectives discovered that the student did not intend to commit any violence.

However, this threat initiated a large police response and a three-hour disruption at the school. The HCSO says it also caused fear to the students and faculty at Tyner.

Authorities have now filed charges against this student, including a felony charge of false reports and a misdemeanor charge of making threats of mass violence on school property.

Since the student is a juvenile, their identity has not been revealed.
