Shooting on Market Street upgraded to homicide

UPDATE (9/29/23 – 1:32 PM):

The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) has provided an update on a shooting that happened late Thursday night on Market Street. According to police, the victim has now passed away.

Chattanooga Police have now identified the shooting victim as Christopher Wright.

Authorities are still looking for the suspect, who they say shot a man following an argument.

CPD said it happened in the 1000 block of Market Street, just before midnight on Thursday.

Upon arrival, officers found a 38-year-old man with a life-threatening gunshot wound.

The man did die from his injuries, according to CPD.

Investigators believe the victim and suspect were verbally arguing, then the suspect pulled a gun and shot the victim.

They are still working to identify and find the shooter.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Chattanooga Police responded to a call of a person shot on Market Street early this morning.

The incident happened near Patten Towers.

Police assured that there is no threat to the public.

The investigation is still pending.
