Signal Mountain Riding Defense and Rebounds to Fantastic Season

Signal Mountain, TN-(WDEF-TV) Defense wins championships. And in basketball, rebounding is a big part of defense. Brian Armstrong talks with Signal Mountain’s girls basketball team about their work on rebounding and working to bring home a region title.

Said head coach Kendra Bell: We like to dominate offensively and defensively on the boards.And we say that’s what wins championships is rebounds.

Signal Mountain Girls Basketball will play in the region three AAA championship game, building on their success they’ve had all season long

Said Bell: I think this is what it’s all about, and we talk about that, that, you know, it’s just practice, and this is what really matters right now.We do work on a lot of different things.

Added center Aubryn McKendrick: So we’ll have, like, postwork working and then while guards working.

Signal has won several close games this season, something they’ve contributed to being able to dominate the boards

Said Bell: We’ve been very steady throughout this whole year,and I think our record indicates that.And they’ve just been strong and steady and played great defense and rebounds, and you can win a lot of games doing that.

Said McKendrick: We have a lot of ball movement, and we have some girls who they’re really athletic.So when the time really comes, we’re all thinking, like, okay, how can we get up? And then we have like, a teammate and they go steal it. And we’re like, oh, perfect. Again, and won.

Plus, McKendrick towers over countless players, and her teammates have shown her how to improve down low.

Said McKendrick: This season, I’ve been working on more, focusing on rebounds and looking for the ball.Kind of like I’m seeing how my other fellow posts teammates, they’re pretty good at rebounding, so I’m like watching what they’re doing and see where they’re headed.I’m like, okay, so I kind of learn off of my teammates.

Said Bell: Obviously is a good post player and she’s very skilled under the basket and like I said in the paint,wins and loses a lot of games, and she brings that in some senior leadership that’s definitely needed
