Silverdale Soccer Enjoying Another Successful Season
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The Silverdale soccer team is back in the playoffs for the 5th year in-a-row.
The Seahawks own a 14-1-1 record, but they’ll have to dig deep if they plan on capturing their first ever state championship.
The secret to Silverdale’s recent success is pretty simple.
Good players.
Said head coach Chris Neighbors:”Brooke (Bolton) that you interviewed. She’s going to Carson Newman. Got another one this year going to Dalton. We had a couple last year. One that is at Lee University. One is at the University of North Alabama. So we’ve just got a lot of talent.”
Good defense helps too.
Last night was the first time Silverdale allowed more than two goals in a game all season.
Said senior Brooke Bolton:”Our defense is insane. Maggie (Placer) is here. Our defense is great.”
Said Placer:”I don’t feel a lot of confidence dribbling up the field and through people. I like people coming at me and getting to control the game. It’s definitely a team effort. It’s not just me.”
Adversity has certainly come at the Seahawks.
They’ve lost four players to season ending knee injuries.
Said Neighbors:”This is my 25th season, and I’ve never had an ACL tear. You know it’s part of sports. It happens. Injuries come. But we know the Lord is not surprised by it. He’s in charge of that. He’s in control. We just have to learn from it. Work through it and do the best that we can.”
Silverdale has twice reached the state semi-finals, but they haven’t been able to win it all.
Maybe they can look to the school’s softball team for inspiration.
They’ve won back-to-back state crowns.
Said Bolton:”It is motivating seeing other teams at your school win state championships.”
Said Neighbors:”We know that the pieces are here. We know that other teams have done it, so why not us?”
Said Placer:”I think this year we really want it, so we’re coming for it.”
