Silverdale Softball Finishes Revenge Tour With State Title
Silverdale Softball finished with winning a state title, but it started as a revenge tour.
Said pitcher Ella Cunningham:”Last year in the Elite Eight.We lost to them in our two for three series.We came back and won it this year in two games and just being back, the revenge is beating them twice, coming back and winning it.”
Said head coach Jackie Freeland:”This is our let’s see, this is my third year, I guess,here in the first year we made it to the final Four. Last year we got beat out by ColumbiaAcademy in the two out of three game.So they were just ready to be in this game.They knew they could do it, so they called it revenge on really, I guess, Columbia Academy.So that’s where that came from.”
Now that revenge tour is complete as Silverdale Softball won its second state title in school history.
Said Cunningham:”Trust my defense, trust the hitting, trust my teammates. That’s a big thing.You can’t get to this level without trusting your defense behind you.”
During the state title game, pitcher Ella Cunningham threw a complete game and added from the batter’s box, too.
Said Freeland:”She really fought, really throughout the state tournament, did a great job for us. She struck out two of the final three outs and caused a foul pop out to secure the win.”
Said Cunnigham:”I felt amazing knowing that my teammates have my back, even in the very last play where Emery’srunning into the fence to catch that foul ball like that’s huge for the team.”
She and the rest of her team were able to send her teammate and lone senior on the team, Addison Keefe, out with a state title on her resume.
Said Cunningham:”It feels great for Addie. I know she loves everyone on this team. She believes in all of us, top to bottom.It doesn’t matter who you are.She believes that we can do it for anybody.We did it for her.”
Said Freeland:”We had one senior this year and she’s a huge asset to our team and we’re really going to miss her.And we’re young, though, so we have almost everybody back, which is awesome.Bright future for us.”
