Silverdale Basketball Enjoying Best Start in School History

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The Silverdale basketball team is off to the best start in school history.
The Seahawks carry an impressive 12-0 record into mid-December.

One reason Silverdale is undefeated so far this season.
They be big.
Said guard Houston Holland:”Our starting lineup. Our shortest guy is only 6-foot. It’s fun to beat. Not beat up on the other team, but we play physical, and we try to bring that mentality.”
And Kennedy Okpara leads the Seahawks big men.
Said head coach Slater Belew:”He’s the most dominant player on the court, which we have a lot of those guys. But night in and night out, if he has the focus that we talk about in the locker room, I mean not many people can stop him.”
You can’t stop the Seahawks, you can only hope to contain’em, because they’re also an unselfish team.
Said Holland:”Last game that we just played we had 24 assists. We just try to move the ball together. Coach has been preaching on that to be unselfish.”
Despite the perfect record, the season hasn’t been a cake-walk, especially during Silverdale’s Thanksgiving tournament.
Said guard Brett Wright:”I think we had four or five guys out with the flu. We played the semifinals and the championship with six players. We got it done.”
Coach Belew would love to avoid another short-handed roster. For now he’s digging what they’ve accomplished.
Said Belew:”One thing that we keep on telling our guys is continue to be humble. Be the underdog. We’ve been the underdog for so long that we understand how that feels, and we have to have that feeling every single night to remain focused and continue to give our best.”
